School Visits and Education The Education CentreOpened in 2009, the Education Centre was built in partnership by Donarbon Waste Management Ltd (who were acquired by AmeyCespa in September 2010) and Cambridgeshire County Council. AmeyCespa (East) is the main waste management company dealing with Cambridgeshire’s household waste. The chances are that if you put something in your wheelie bin, bin bag or recycling box in Cambridgeshire, it will arrive here at AmeyCespa (East). This makes the Education Centre an ideal place to learn more about how waste in the county is treated. It is a free centre for schools, colleges, community groups and residents in Cambridgeshire. It has one main classroom, an activity room and a composting activity room. From the Education Centre groups can see MBT (Mechanical Biological Treatment) plant in action, walk to the landfill site, or travel around the site to see the composting and recycling. Please visit our Learning Zone for information and activities to help with learning before and after a visit. Aims Our aim with the Education Centres is to provide clear information about the waste management processes in Cambridgeshire, help all residents understand what happens to their waste, and raise awareness of the importance of reducing and recycling waste. Activities ![]() We have a range of hands-on, stimulating activities at the centre, which are designed to help children and young people think about the waste they produce, and possible ways of reducing, reusing and recycling. Both primary and secondary children are catered for with entertaining activities involving reusing waste materials, recycling, composting, art, design and technology, geography and tours of the site. Activities for schools can be linked to specific curriculum areas such as Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Citizenship Geography, Art, Design and Technology, and Science. All are delivered by an experienced, fully qualified teacher who will discuss which activities are most suitable for you and your group when you make your booking ensuring a tailor made visit to suit your needs.
