Frequently Asked Questions About Our Skip and Bin Hire
The following questions are often raised by people hiring skips and bins for the first time. We have created this section to assist you in answering some of the questions you may have. If your question is not answered here, or you have more specific questions to ask, please contact us on 01223 861010, or fill in an enquiry form.
Skip Hire How much notice do I need to give? Orders taken before mid-day are usually dealt with the following day unless we are particularly busy. If you require a permit then we will need 5 working days to obtain one from the local council. When is a permit required? A permit is required when a skip is placed on public land such as footpaths and highways. Permits last for a maximum of 14 days and in most cases we will be able to organise this for you. How do I pay? We accept cash on delivery or any major credit card on ordering. Alternatively if you require many skips in the future, you may wish to consider opening an account. Where can skips be placed? We will place skips in the most suitable location if no instructions are given. When deciding a skips location you will need to consider access for a HGV, the weight of the loaded skip, and which way round you want the skip if you have a drop door. Block paving, soft tarmac and grass areas are not suitable for heavy loads. If you are unsure if an area is suitable, please call our transport department for advice. 4 yard to 14 yard skips are delivered by our standard size skip lorries and 16 yard to 40 yard skips are delivered by our large roll on off lorries. Which skips have drop doors? 4, 6 and 8 yard skips. Are lidded skips available? Yes lidded skips are available from 8 yard to 14 yard, and are primarily used for light industrial waste. Is the waste recycled? All the skip waste is taken to our C&D Recycling Facility where we aim to achieve 80% diversion from landfill. Skips containing green waste is processed by our IVC composting facility. Bin Hire Where can bins be placed? The following factors need to be considered: - Can a dustcart access the location? - Can a bin be easily manoeuvred to the dustcart? For example, will it face steps/slopes/gravel? - Are there any width/height restrictions stopping larger bins from being used? How much notice do I need to give? Once the quote is accepted, the service can commence within three working days. When will the bins be emptied? Non-residential areas can be serviced from 5am unto 4.30pm on the allocated service day for your area. Residential areas can be serviced from 7am to 4.40pm on the allocated service day for your area. Sites can be serviced up to 7 days a week, weekly, fortnightly or on a monthly basis. Our Fleet operates 363 days a year, therefore eliminating the chance of missed collections. Is there an alternative if I require many bins for one type of waste? Yes. You can hire a REL skip, which can take the same volume of waste as several 1100L wheelie bins. The skip is delivered by a standard size skip lorry and emptied by a REL dustcart. |
